Dr. Darren Williams: Evangelist, Professor, and Campus Faith Leader

Dr. Darren Williams is a Professor of Chemistry at Sam Houston State University (SHSU), where he teaches courses including quantum mechanics, spectroscopy, thermodynamics, and forensic chemistry, engaging students in the sciences with rigor and passion. Outside the chemistry lab, Dr. Williams is deeply committed to helping students explore faith and reason through his role as an Evangelist with the Texas District of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS) and as Chapter Director and Faculty Advisor for Ratio Christi at SHSU.

Ratio Christi, Latin for “the reason of Christ,” is a global apologetics organization that equips college students to think deeply about their beliefs and engage others thoughtfully with the Christian faith. At SHSU, Dr. Williams leads this ministry in reaching students who are curious about Christianity or wrestling with questions of faith. Through weekly meetings, discussions, and on-campus outreach, Ratio Christi provides a welcoming environment where students can explore topics ranging from the existence of God to the historical reliability of the Bible.

Under Dr. Williams’ guidance, the SHSU chapter encourages intellectual engagement with faith—teaching students to “love God with all their heart, soul, and mind” by thoughtfully examining biblical, historical, philosophical, and scientific perspectives. Rather than simply providing answers, the ministry creates space for respectful conversation and authentic exploration of tough questions.

Dr. Williams’ leadership also reflects his broader commitment to evangelism: he serves as an Evangelism Chair in his local LCMS congregation, and participates in events that connect Ratio Christi with church communities across the region. His work bridges academia and faith outreach, giving college students both intellectual tools and spiritual encouragement as they navigate life’s big questions.

Through Ratio Christi at Sam Houston State University, Dr. Darren Williams continues to inspire and equip students to deepen their understanding of Christianity and share their faith with clarity and compassion.
