Conformed to Christ: Doctrine and Practice Working Together
How do we hold fast to our shared confession of faith while navigating differences in worship and other church practices? Where do we even draw the line between doctrine and practice, conscience and freedom?
Drawing on the LCMS Commission on Theology and Church Relations (CTCR) report entitled Unity in Doctrine, Uniformity and Variety in Practice, we will study historical cases—from Acts 15 and the Reformation to the history of the Missouri Synod—as this Texas District LCMS convocation explores Christian freedom, adiaphora, conscience, and charitable theological conversation. Participants will consider how we can address disagreements faithfully, seek agreement where possible, and preserve the unity we share in the true faith.
Presenters will be:
Rev. Dr. Richard J. Serina, Jr.
Associate Executive Director, Commission on Theology and Church Relations, The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod
Rev. Dr. Joel D. Biermann
Waldemar A. and June Schuette Professor of Systematic Theology; Faculty Marshal
