A little over three weeks ago, Hurricane Laura hit the Texas/Louisiana coast, leaving behind it a path of destruction. With its powerful winds, families from both states were displaced, and communities remain without power, sewer and water.
The Sermon on the Mount lays out what ethical and daily living should look like for the disciples and it is an example of how God expects us to live.
“Blessed are the merciful…” The merciful are those people that will show mercy and love, those people that empty themselves of pride and, in this case, respond to disasters. It’s people that show up to cut down trees, clear debris, shop for clothing, and do laundry for strangers, organize prayer groups, collect, sort through and deliver donations, coordinate volunteers, open up their churches to provide shelter and meals for volunteers and make monetary donations to organizations that give back 100 percent of the donations to support recovery efforts. That is a picture of the Texas District; it’s partners across the state and how we respond.
