Back in May, Texas District leaders Noemi and Lincoln Guerra, and Jake Boessling, met with Rachel Jenkins at a local Starbucks outside San Antonio, just down the road from her church. Rachel has been a member of the church for a few years, along with her husband and son. Over coffee, Rachel shared her vision for a future ministry initiative called Mocha Mondays—a gathering space specifically for moms of children with autism. Her heart was to build bridges of trust and offer Gospel hope to families in her community. We left that meeting deeply inspired by Rachel’s passion and her willingness to step out in faith.

On August 10, 2025, Rachel was prayed over and sent as an evangelist at King of Kings, San Antonio. In front of her congregation, she boldly responded, “Yes, I promise with the help of God,” when asked, “Will you live a life worthy of an Evangelist, proclaiming Christ through your being, life, and word, and pointing new people toward Jesus and His Church?”

Since that commissioning, Rachel has begun hosting a small group of moms at the very same Starbucks where we first met. She admits the journey hasn’t been easy—gathering other moms takes time and persistence—but she continues to show up faithfully, trusting God to provide in His timing. Rachel tries to “keep in mind Mark 18:20- ‘For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.”

Even in the challenge, her conviction remains clear, Rachel told me, “As a mom of a child with autism, I understand. Our children struggle, and we struggle. I know how we, as parents, plan to meet, but sometimes the day doesn’t turn out as planned. Sometimes the parents I invite have an appointment. We may not always meet, but those in our group know I’m always there for them.”

Pastor Neldo Schmidt of King of Kings is thrilled to see the evangelist training program taking root in his congregation. In fact, he was so supportive from the very beginning that he requested that Rachel be listed as an evangelist on the church website, making it clear that their congregation is intentionally reaching out to the local community with the love of Christ.

Rachel’s story reminds us that kingdom work often begins small—sometimes with just one mom, one table at Starbucks, and one simple “yes” to God’s call. The road may feel slow and uncertain, but the seeds of the Gospel are being planted. And as Rachel shows up with courage and faith, we trust that God will bring growth in His perfect timing.

May her story encourage all of us to say “yes” where God is calling us, even if it begins with something as ordinary—and extraordinary—as a cup of coffee on a Monday morning.
