13th Annual Austin & Central Texas SENIOR FEST Saturday, February 3, 2018 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Christ Lutheran Church 510 Luther Drive, Georgetown, TX 78628 The keynote speaker will be Rev. Dr. Gerald Kieschnick, former national President of the LCMS. He will be speaking on “Being a Lutheran in 2018.” The cost of the event will be $25.  It is $30 after January 28, 2018. Senior Fest 2018 registration form/brochure is now available. WORKSHOPS AND PRESENTERS: 1. AGING WELL TAKES GUTS: CULTIVATING RESILIENCE MIDST THE CHANGES AND LOSSES OF LATER LIFE Geanie Firnhaber, retired Marriage and Family Therapist There is change and loss in all the stages and phases of life. However, later life seems to bring its own unique collection. In this workshop we will explore ways of adapting and adjusting and accepting these changes and losses. 2. BLUEBONNET WATERCOLOR PAINTING Susan Marcy, K-8 Art Teacher, Redeemer Lutheran School, Austin We will be painting a bluebonnet picture with watercolors. Step by step instructions will be given on each of the watercolor pictures. 3. FITNESS PROGRAMMING FOR SENIOR ADULTS Misha Lee, Certified Personal Trainer and Wellness Coach It’s never too late to start or maintain a consistent routine for your fitness goals! Join in on a little workout routine with Misha, and see how professionals at the Georgetown Recreation Center and similar facilities might be able to help you. 4. HISTORY OF SWEDISH LUTHERAN CONGREGATIONS IN TEXAS The Rev. Elroy Haverlah, retired ELCA Pastor A hen that came to Holy Communion, a church built from the remains of a burned-down capitol, six orphaned girls adopted after worship, a tornado that lifted one church, a hurricane that destroyed another. These among the many stories we will explore as we trace the establishment of a dozen congregations by Lutheran pioneers of the 19th century. We will uncover the inspiring story of men and women who by shear grit and steadfast faith founded the church on the prairies and coastlines of Texas. 5. NAME THAT TUNE! Lenora Doerfler Lighthearted and just plain fun workshop. Criteria for attending is a love of music and sense of humor. Music from the 40’s to the 70’s, Showtunes, of course, some beloved hymns, along with a few surprises! Lenora will serve as the game show host. We will have a skilled pianist begin by playing 3 to 5 notes of the song, then pause and let participants call out the tune, if they can. Then add 3 more notes and pause, adding 3 notes each time until someone guesses. Lots of healthy laughing! Prizes will be awarded! 6. WHAT’S YOUR LIFE VERSE? The Rev. Landon Ledlow, Family Life Pastor, Redeemer Lutheran, LCMS, Austin Every faithful character in the Bible comes to a place in their life where they will live by faith or in fear. Hebrews 11 recaps many of these heroes of faith, but only gives their story one or two sentences. If you were included in this list, what would your verse say?
